An organism is a living thing, such as a plant, an animal. fungi or micro-organism. A population is a group of organisms of the same kind that live together and reproduce in a particular place. The number of organisms in a population is called a population size. The population size of an organism increases when organisms reproduce or give birth or move in to a particular place when there is sufficient food, water, air, space and shelter for protection , when there are no other organisms to feed on them or when there is a favourable climate that is not too hot or too cold. A population size decreases when members of the population die or move out of a particular place when there is insufficient food, water, air, space and shelter for protection, when there are other organisms that feed on them or when there is harsh climate that is too hot or too cold. The place where an organism lives is called its habitat. Habitats provide organism s with food, water, air, space and shelter for protection. All the populations living in a habitat depend on one another for survival. We say they are interdependent. All the different populations of organisms that live together in a habitat form a community. Different habitats support different community. Different habitats support different communities, such as a pond, field, single plant, seashore, garden and other habitats .
